IoT Water Level Sensor Solution:helps early detection of abnormal situations like water leakage

In FY2019, KCCS Mobile Engineering Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hyngbae Kim; hereinafter called "KCME"), in collaboration with OSASI Technos Inc. (Head Office: Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture; President: Maki Yano), started the demonstration of the "IoT Water Level Sensor Solution" for municipalities in Nagano Prefecture to improve the efficiency of maintenance and management of water supply facilities.

The IoT Water Level Sensor Solution utilizes a remote monitoring system that combines KCME's water level monitoring application with Osashi Technos' LPWA (Sigfox) compatible water level meters, allowing users to check the "current water level" and "graphs showing changes in water levels" at observation points anytime and anywhere via mobile terminals or computers.

The waterworks facilities of the municipality have a system that displays the current water levels at each facility on an electronic bulletin board in the municipal office; however, there was an issue that it took time to grasp the situation in case of abnormalities because checking the water levels required visiting the office or the facilities. Another issue was that some of the facilities had no infrastructure to supply power and had no system to monitor the water level because installing equipment requiring power was difficult.

As a result, the water level graph showed abnormal values during the demonstration, which led to early detection of water leakage and minimized the damage. Early detection of leaks enhances the efficiency of maintenance and management, and it also improves the revenue ratio, which is essential for the long-term sustainability of the water supply business.

This case motivated the municipality to appreciate the effectiveness of the IoT water level sensor solution, and they are now considering expanding the number of locations to install it.
